Since the beginning of time human beings have used words to express their wants and worries, their hungers and hopes. Poems to Live By brings you poems, some famous and some not famous at all, that can guide you and ground you and help you risk your own expressions of the fullness of life, living and loving more fully freely.

Each episode is a reading offered by me with my commentary on the resonances of the poem with my life and the common life we share with each other. The poems I read are always poems I live my own life by—that is, they have deep resonances with my own experience, they guide and challenge me. And so, I offer them to you with the hope that they may come to mean something to you, that they may guide and challenge you too.

These Poems to Live By speak not only to something Universal, but to the particularities of each of us who hear them and take in their message as lyrical expressions of the full range of our shared human experience.
